IAS - Indian Administrative Service Exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission Eligibility for Civil Service Exam – IAS Officer You must be either: -citizen of India, or -subject of Nepal, or -subject of Bhutan, or -Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962 or -Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. -You must possess a degree from an Indian University or an equivalent qualification. - You must have attained the age of 21 years on 1st August of the year of examination and must not have attained 30 years of age on that date. -The upper age limit is also relaxed in favour of certain categories of civil servants working under the Government of India and Defence Services Personnel. -The upper age limit will be relaxed by 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

Indian Administrative Services Exam (IAS) exam is conducted by central body Union Public Service Commission every year in the month of May to selected candidates for Central Government and its various departments. IAS Exam Eligibility Graduate in any discipline from a recognised university. Candidates having professional and technical qualifications recognised by the government are also eligible. Final year students of graduation can also apply Candidates who have passed the final year of MBBS or any Medical degree Examination but are yet to complete the internship can also appear for the Main Examination. Age Limits: Candidate age must be between 21 years to 30 years The upper age limit may be relaxed for SC/ST and other backward classes. IAS Exam Pattern This exam is normally held in three parts: Preliminary Exam Mains exam Interview IAS Exam Syllabus IAS Preliminary Examination 2014 would consist of two papers- Paper I and Paper II. Paper 1 (200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs. Current events of national and international importance History of India and Indian national movement Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc. Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc. General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that donot require subject specialization General science. Paper 2 (200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs.
