I have two questions in my mind regarding education in Japan. Firstly, what is the academic cycle of education in Japan and second what is the cost of living for students in Japan? Are the students permitted to work along with their studies out there?

In Japan most of higher educational institutions set its academic year to begin from April to March with two semester system. Each academic year has a 2 semesters, first semester (April-September) and second semester (October-March). However please note that there are certain institutions which start its academic year in autumn (September or October). The 3 holiday seasons are normally in summer (end July-early September), winter (end December-early January) ans spring (February-march). At the universities, junior colleges and special training schools, expenses include tuition fees, fees for use of facilities and equipment and other expenses. Average tuition fees for Japanese language school is approximately Rs. 25000/- per month. For undergraduate and postgraduate courses it is approx. Rs. 25,000 per month during the first year and Rs.20000/- per month second' year onwards. (The figures are subject to upward revision). Accommodation can be one of expensive in Japan. The national and local governments and universities run dormitories for foreign students. Rental fees in metropolitan areas differ greatly from those in outlying areas. Average approximate housing expenses are Rs. 12,500 per month (subject to upward revision). Further details can be had from the website of Japan Embassy. |
