Nursing Studies in USA USA offers professional education in nursing. The basic study for the nursing profession takes place at the undergraduate level. A variety of options for advanced, specialized nursing education also exist in USA. These options for nursing education include university master's and doctoral programs as well as certificates and continuing education programs, which are normally very brief. These nursing programs are offered by universities, hospitals and associations. Specializations normally include: nursing education, nursing administration, nurse midwifery, psychiatric nursing, public health nursing and many others nursing fields. To become a professional-level registered nurse (RN) in U.S. one must possess (i) a bachelor's degree in nursing (ii) NCLEX-RN. This is a licensing examination for a nurse which must be passed. The nurses which are educated outside USA are required to be certified by the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) before taking the NCLEX-RN. CGFNS certification is also required be obtained if you apply for either a temporary non-immigrant visa (H-IA) or a permanent visa of USA. CGFNS certificate is awarded only after a credential review and an examination/ Test. The CGFNS examination is conducted to test nursing knowledge of candidates. |
