WBUT came into operation formally with the presumption of the workplace of the primary Vice Chancellor on January 15, 2001 as a spin-off of the proclamation of THE WEST BENGAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY ACT, 2001, under West Bengal Act XV of 2000 go by the West Bengal Legislature. The University began its scholarly program, from July 16, 2001 after a Notification from the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal dated June 15, 2001 through the association of Engineering and Management Institutions/Colleges and has entered the eighth year of its working. The University is unfaltering in its twin targets: a) To serve as a Center of Excellence in instructing and research in innovation and administration region. b) To give structure of industrialization in light of information economy. To understand its central goal of rising as a Center of Excellence the University has made three Schools of Studies viz. School of Engineering and Technology (SET), School of Biotechnology and Biological Sciences (SBTBS) and School of Management and Sciences (SOMS) containing in the blink of an eye of five offices viz. Division of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Bioinformatics and Department of Management and Sciences.
