There are only four chances to appear for IAS exam for an general category so you should not waste any of your chances by just appearing without any preparation

There is no such thing that you will have to prepare for years and years to clear this exam, many people clear this exam in first attempt also so it totally depends on you how you prepare for the exam

This depends upon your catching capability & your command over your subject. So start from ground level means study NCERT books from 6th to 12th books again
& realize what you have left behind.

IAS-Indian Administrative services is one of the toughest exam of the country so I must say you need to give your 100% to clear this exam

There is no any fix limit for the Number of years for preparation of IAS Exam. The required time is depends on you. According to me minimum 4 to 6 months are required for the preparation of IAS Exam. You should need to study seriously and at least 6 to 7 hours per day.
