Indian Administrative Service is one of special services run under Indian Government.
For IAS aspirants have to go through its competitive exam i.e. CSE (Civil Service Examination) held every year under the supervision of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)

Eligibility criteria:
Candidate must have to pass Graduation degree in any stream from a recognized University are eligible to apply this exam.
Candidates who have passed the final year of MBBS or any Medical degree Examination but are yet to complete the internship can also appear for the Main Examination.
Candidate should be citizen of India.
The age limit for General Category candidates is 21-30 years.
For SC/ST it is 21-35 years
For OBC it is 21-33 years
The candidate who is a Ex-service men will get a exception of 5 years from the prescribed limits.

Selection procedure:
The selection process of IAS exam comprises of following two steps:
Written test(preliminary and mains)
Personal interview
IAS examination offers following no.of attempts:
General-4 times
OBC -7 times
No limit for SC/ST candidates

IAS Exam paper pattern:

Subjects: Marks
Section 1 Essay
Section 2 English Comprehension & English Précis
(Of Matriculation/ Xth standard level) -200+100=300 marks

General Studies - I
(Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society)
-250 marks
General Studies – II
(Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations)
-250 marks
General Studies –III
(Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management)
-250 marks

General Studies -IV
(Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude)
-250 marks

Optional Subject – Paper 1
-250 marks

Optional Subject – Paper 2
-250 marks
Total -1800 marks
Interview -275 marks
Grand Total -2075 marks

Date of notification:- 17.05.2014
Last date for receipt of applications:- 16.06.2014 (Monday)
Date of commencement of exam:- 24.08.2014 (Sunday)
Duration of exam:- 1 day
Civil services (main) exam., 14.12.2014 (Sunday)
