An IAS officer is one of the most respectable positions in the society. To become an IAS officer you have to appear and clear the Civil Service Exam which is conducted by UPSC.

Here is the step by step process to become IAS officer---

-You need to obtain a Bachelor Degree in any discipline from a UGC recognized university.
-Bachelor degree is the minimum qualification required for the civil service exam.
-There is no minimum percentage required for civil service exam.
- You need to Qualify All India combined competitive examination for Civil Service

All India combined competitive examination for Civil Service comprises of two stages.
Preliminary Examination
Main Examination

Preliminary examination is usually conducted in the month of May/ June every year. You can choose your optional subject from the list given below.

Agriculture
Psychology
Public Administration
Electrical Engineering
Sociology
Statistics
Zoology
Economics
Geography
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
Botany
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Commerce
Political Science
Geology
Indian History
Law
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Medical Science
Philosophy
Physics

The medium of instructions will be in English and in Hindi. Candidates can expect questions in the optional paper from the degree level syllabus. Time limit of each paper is two hours. Candidates who have cleared the preliminary examination are eligible for the main exam.

Main examination is of descriptive type which comprises of the following papers.
One Indian Language for 300 marks
English for 300 marks
General Essay for 300 marks
General Studies of 300 marks
Any two optional papers for 300 marks each
Personal Interview

-Usually the final interview is conducted in the month of April/ May every year
-Once selected, all candidates are required to undergo compulsory foundation training.

As you are going to do the Examination of IAS Officer let me give some basic overview of the Examination .
the Indian Administrative Service.Examination fall in the category of the Civil service Examionation of Indian Govt. conducted by the UPSC every year.An officer selected into the IAS gets exposure in very diverse roles like the collector, commissioner, head of public sector units, chief secretary, cabinet secretary etc.
the IAS Examination has basically two Examination that are
Preliminary Examination
Main Examination
the preliminary Examination consists of two paper
General Studies
Optional Subjects
for preparing for this Examination you may For this paper, it is very important to be updated in “current affairs” in all fields.

For History, Economy, Polity, etc, you should read Class 11 and 12 books published by the NCERT.
For general knowledge and objective-type questions, refer to the book “General Knowledge Refresher by O.P. Khanna”.
for General Studies, you should try to read up as many business and political magazines, newspapers etc. that you can. This has two advantages. It will give you a good control over the English language. This "good control" helps you in many of the papers like the "essay paper", the "English qualifying paper" etc. It will also keep you updated with the latest facts and current affairs.

in the main examination there are following papers:
Essay type Indian Language Paper (300 marks)
English Qualifying Paper (300 marks)
General Essay type paper (200 marks)
General Studies papers (300 marks each)
Optional subjects papers (300 marks each)

for preparing to this Examination you may work hard on the prepration of Writing Skills to write Essays , and you may also work to improve your English and in terms of Optional subjects you may choose your optional subject and practice on the previous year papers to have a general idea to deal with this type of questions
