i have just appeared the 12th class exam and i am a medical student.can i am eligible for merchant navy

Merchant Navy had invited the recruitment for the 2280 vacant post of Marine Engineer, Deck Officer.

Eligible Criteria:
Applicants should possess 10th + 12th from a recognized board.
Applicants age should be between 17 ½ years to 25 years.

Selection Procedure:
Applicants will be selected on the basis of written exam and Qualified Applicants will be called for the final interview.

Last date for receipt of Application form: 11-01-2014

For joining Merchant Navy the candidate should have passed 12th with at least 50% marks with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. And the age should be between 17 to 25 years.

The Merchant Navy is the backbone of international trade, carrying cargo all over the world.

Merchant Navy is different from the navy in the sense that it offers commercial services, as opposed to the navy, which is largely involved in the defence of a nation.

Eligibility for Merchant Navy:

The eligibility for joining merchant navy is finishing class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Candidates have to be unmarried Indian citizens (male or female).

Normal vision is required but glasses up to plus or minus 2.5 may be allowed.

Admission is through an entrance followed by a screening test and a main written examination.
After clearing the test, there is an interview and a medical test.

You also need to complete a ship-training course prior to the employment. The course is generally short-term where the candidates are taught basic security concerns of voyaging.

Entry is also possible if you apply to either of the popular maritime institutes for maritime programmes. You can apply for sponsorships at the institutes started by shipping companies to train potential candidates for the merchant navy.

The sponsorship to go on a ship will be provided to you by the company through which you apply only if you have completed a course at their institute
