IPS (Indian Police Service) is a service of Indian Government. Exam of IPS is conducted by UPSC Eligibility for IPS: 1. Candidate must be a citizen of India. 2. Candidate have completed 05 years of continuous and actual service as Deputy Superintendent of Police in States under State Police Service or Assistant Commandants in Central Para Military Forces (Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Central Industrial Security Force and Sashastra Seema Bal) or Officers of the Rank of Captain or Major or equivalent in the Armed Forces. 3. Candidate should have an unblemished service record. 4. Age criteria of IPS is candidate must not have attained the age of 35 years for General Category, 36 years for Other Backward Classes category candidates and 37 years for candidates belonging to a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe. Exam Pattern: Paper of IPS is consists of three stages: 1. Preliminary Examination 2. Main Examination 3. Interview Preliminary examination is based on multiple choice patterns. Main examination is a written examination. The main exam is divided in different papers: Paper I - One Indian language. Paper II – English. Paper III – Essay. Paper IV&V - General Studies. Paper VI-IX - Any two subjects (optional papers to be selected by the candidate). Syllabus for Paper: Paper I :- General Studies covering Current affairs, History of India, Geography of India and the world, Indian polity and Governance, Economic and social development, Environmental issues and General Science Paper II :- Aptitude test comprising Comprehension, Interpersonal skills, Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Decision making and problem solving, General mental ability, Basic numeracy and English Language Comprehension skills Paper III :- English Language paper. This paper would be of Matriculation standard and qualifying in nature only. Its marks will not be counted for preparation of merit ranking. Paper IV :- Essay paper. It will comprise two essays, one on security aspect and the other on various developmental aspect of the society. Indian Police Services Officer is one of the three All India Services of the Government of India; The Civil Services Examination consists of three stages: 1. Preliminary Examination: it is a qualifying examination and is objective type. 2. Main Examination: it is a conventional written examination. 3. Interview The first stage is the preliminary examination. This exam consists of two papers. Paper I is General Studies and Paper II is an Optional Subject.
