All students have been awarded grades, not marks. The practice of declaring Compartment/Fail has been discontinued The result of candidates is now declared in two categories: Eligible for qualifying certificate (QUAL) and Eligible for improvement of performance (EIOP) All candidates, even if they have failed in all subjects will now have five chances to improve their performance without having to repeat a year. Summative Assessment: Based on the term-end examination There will be two evaluations each in the first and second terms. The first term-end exam will carry 20 marks. The second term-end exam will carry 40 marks Formative Assessment: To evaluate and grade class work, homework, assignment and project work There will be one term-end exam for each term Each evaluation will carry 10 marks apiece. EVALUATION: Students of class IX will be evaluated on a 9-point grading system. CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) has introduced the grading system which is similar to the grading system of Cambridge International Exam. The system is called the nine-point grading system and includes 9 pointers to reflect a students performance. The CBSE grading system for class 9 is as follows: Marks Grade Points Grade 91 to 100 10 A1 81-90 9 A2 71 to 80 8 B1 61 to 70 7 B2 51 to 60 6 C1 41 to 50 5 C2 33 to 40 4 D 21 to 32 0 E1 < 20 0 E2 CBSE Class 9 Exam Pattern 1. 80 Marks Annual Examination: Schools will conduct Class-IX Exam for 80 marks in each subject covering 100% syllabus of the subject of Class-IX only. One has to secure minimum 33% marks out of 80 marks in each subject. Marks and Grades both will be awarded for Individual subjects. 9-point grading will be same as followed by the Board in Class XII. 2. 20 Marks Internal Assessment: One has to secure 33% marks out of overall 20 marks earmarked in each subject. Internal assessment consists of (i) Periodic Test: 3 periodic written tests are to be conducted in each subject in an Academic Year. Each periodic test will carry 10 marks. Average of the best two tests to be taken for final marks submission. 3 periodic tests will help one to prepare for the Annual Board Exam. (ii) Notebook Submission This is to give weightage to students regularity, assignment completion, neatness & upkeep of notebook. Notebook submission holds 5 marks for Periodic Test. It aims at instilling the qualities of regularity, punctuality and neatness among the students. (iii) Subject Enrichment Activity Subject Enrichment Activity will also add 5 marks to Periodic Test. It covers: (a) Speaking and listening skills in Language Subjects (b) Practical lab work in Science. (c) Math lab practical in Mathematics. (d) Map work and project work in Social Science These are the subject specific activities which will help in better understanding of the subject and skill development.
