I am running a coaching center from where many students are going abroad for further studies and I am seeing that some of them are facing some issues regarding education. I came to know about some Education Services for Overseas Students Act (ESOS Act) in Australia, please update me with more details about these so that I can educate my students about this also?

The Education Services for Overseas Students Act (ESOS Act) The Australian Government ensures that international students who come to Australia for their studies have legal protection. The ESOS Act is unique to Australia. It ensures that students get the quality course, besides providing many other assurances to the international students and their families. Under the ESOS legislation, institutions who offer courses to international students studying on student visa must first meet requirements for registration on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). An Australian student visa can only be granted to undertake a CRICOS registered course. This Act gives authority to the Australian Government to moniter the performance of education providers. Student rights in Australia All students have certain rights irrespective of their nationalities. These could involve academic appeals, the right to protest against discrimination on the basis of sex, religion, ethnic origin, disability, etc. Overseas students are urged to get acquainted with their rights outlined in their institution's information brochures. |
