In the University of Texas at Austin graduate school graduation is the awarding of a degree upon the satisfactory completion of a student's program of work.

Master's and doctoral degree students should discuss with their graduate consultant and the Graduate Catalog for procedures to graduate.

Steps to Graduating
Step 1 - Official Degree Check
This step is an evaluation of your final degree necessities performed by an educational advisor in the College of Liberal Arts Student Division.
Step 2 - Graduation Application
In this step you must apply for graduation in your final semester.
Side Step - Walk List
In this step you can contribute in the graduation ceremony if you are not earning a degree at the end of the semester by signing the walk list.

Graduation---
-Convocation is public ceremony at which all graduates are individually recognized and hooded by the dean of their academic college.
-The Graduate School hosts a university-wide convocation ceremony each spring at Bass Concert Hall to honor master's and doctoral graduates.
-The Graduate School Convocation ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Bass Concert Hall.
-The master's ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. and the doctoral ceremony will begin at noon.
-Around the first week of April, the Graduate School will email eligible students details of the convocation ceremony
-You must be a summer or fall 2013 graduate or spring 2014 degree candidate to participate in the ceremony.
-August and December 2014 degree candidates are not eligible to march in this ceremony.
-Academic regalia is required for students participating in convocation.
-Regalia is available for rental or purchase through the University Co-op starting March 5, 2014.
-The deadline to order master’s regalia is May 2, 2014.
-The deadline to purchase doctoral regalia is March 21, 2014 and to rent doctoral regalia the deadline is April 4, 2014.

Graduation Guidelines and Deadlines for Master's Candidates for spring 2014

-You must be a registered student to graduate.
-If you are in the thesis or report option, you must be registered for 698B or 398R, accordingly.
-Beginning January 13, 2014 submit the Master's Graduation Application Form online.
-The form can be completed and submitted online from January 13, 2014 until March 20, 2014.
-After March 20 any student who fails to complete the online Graduation Application must contact a degree evaluator in the Graduate School to request individual access. -The Master's Graduation Application is valid for one semester only and a new application must be submitted if your semester of graduation changes.
-Students who do not submit an online Master's Graduation Application by April 11 will not be eligible to receive their degree in the spring.
-If you find after filing for graduation that you will not complete your degree requirements, you may contact the Graduate School for instructions on rescheduling your graduation.
-The remaining items are due in the Graduate School, Main Building 101, on or before May 2, 2014 in order to graduate in spring, 2014.

All master's degree candidates must submit a printed copy of the following pages to the Graduate School by the spring submission deadline:
-a title page,
-a signature page
-an Abstract,
-a Statement of Research in Restricted Regions
-a Statement on Research with Human Participants
