Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) is an open science and designing college situated in Daegu Metropolitan City, Republic of Korea. Under a Special Act on Support of Scientists and Engineers for Strengthening National Science and Technology Competitiveness, the Korean government established Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (Act No. 6996) and established DGIST in 2004 as an examination foundation. In 2008, the demonstration was altered to broaden the part of the foundation to both research and training, which in the long run empowered a progress from an examination organization to a college. The college is one among four Institutes of Science and Technology in South Korea which show a main part in progression of science and innovation. DGIST has been developing as a main college of science and designing with its mean to encourage national progression by supporting capable people through its imaginative joining instruction and research. History In 2004, the Korean Government set up DGIST as an examination foundation to advance national science and innovation, and found the organization in Daegu to fortify the nearby economy. The administration altered DGIST Act in 2008, empowering the foundation to offer its instructive (degree) programs. The main leader of the organization, when it had a shape as an examination establishment, was Kyu-Suk Chung, designated in 2004; the second was In Seon Lee, delegated in 2007. The present president (as of April 2017), Dr. Sang Hyuk Son, took office as the third leader of DGIST after Dr. Sung-Chul Shin, who was initiated as the establishing president and served a sequential term as the second leader of the college from the year 2011 to 2016.
