Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research, is one of the oldest and largest medical research bodies in the world.

As you asking I am telling Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has been continually conducting research in ophthalmology starting from the first nationwide blindness survey in 1970s till date. In addition ICMR also has mechanisms of sponsoring research by interested individuals which involve adhoc research schemes and fellowships.
