Visvesvaraya Technological University is the largest technological university which offers full time and part time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs in engineering research disciplines.

PhD Admission in VTU is offered for the following subjects under various faculties.

Engineering disciplines:

Mechanical Science
Automobile Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Industrial Engineering and Management
Manufacturing Science and Engineering

Civil Science
Civil Engineering
Transportation Engineering
Construction Technology and Management

PhD eligibility for Engineering disciplines

-Must have Masters degree in Engineering or Technology from a recognized university with a CGPA of 6.75 out of 10. (Minimum 60 percent aggregate at the bachelors level or masters level).
-You should hold Bachelors degree in Engineering or Technology from a recognized university with a CGPA of 7.75 out of 10 (minimum 70 percent aggregate at bachelors level) and should have published research papers in refereed journals or obtained patents.
-Applicants with an M.Sc Engineering degree from a recognized university who have successfully completed coursework in first two semesters of study with CGPA of 7.75 out of 10 (70 percent minimum aggregate) are eligible and should have also published research papers in refereed journals or should have obtained patent files.

-Candidates with an M.Tech degree from recognized university who have successfully completed prescribed course work at first three semesters of study with a CGPA of 7.75 out of 10 (70 percent aggregate) with good research aptitude are eligible.

ULRAT Exam-
The university conducts ULRAT Exam for full time and part time PhD programs

-The question paper is of 100 marks.
-Objective type in nature with multiple choice questions.
-Sections of paper with marks

b)Quantitative aptitude (30 marks)
c)Subject aptitude (50 marks)
