Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a national fellowship programme managed by the Indian Institute of Science. It was started by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to encourage the students to take up research careers in Basis Science.

Yes, one can attempt Maths or Biology but Physics and Chemistry are compulsory.

Stream SA Syllabus:

The syllabus of Stream SA covers topics of Class X & XI:


Physics: Magnetic Effects of Current, Sources of Energy, Reflection, Refraction, Electromagnetic Induction, Applications in Daily Life, Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Work, Energy and Power, Physical World and Measurement, Gravitation, Thermodynamics.

Chemistry: Chemical Reactions, Metals and Non-Metals, Periodic Classification of Elements, Carbon Compounds, Acids, Bases and Salts, Basic Concepts of Chemistry, Thermodynamics, States of Matter: Gases and Liquids, Classification of Elements & Periodicity in Properties, Environmental Chemistry.

Biology: Control and Coordination in Animals and Plants, Heridity and Evolution, Reproduction, Life Processes, Our environment, Plant Physiology, Diversity of Living Organisms, Cell: Structure and Function, Human Physiology.

Mathematics: Real Number, Polynomials, Geometry, Introduction to Trigonometry, Statistics, Quadratic Equations, Probability, Surface Areas & Volumes, Coordinate Geometry, Mathematical Reasoning, Statistics and Probability, Trigonometric Functions.

Paper Pattern

The question paper consists of two parts (both contain only multiple choice questions) for 100 marks. There will be four sections in Part I (each containing 15 questions) and four sections in Part II (each containing 5 questions).

All questions are compulsory.

In Part A - Each correct answer gets 1 mark and for each incorrect answer 0.25 marks will be deducted.

In Part B - Each correct answer gets 2 mark and for each incorrect answer 0.50 mark will be deducted.

Physics 15 questions – 1 mark each 5 questions – 2 marks each
