KSOU Recognized by UGC

Can you tell me if Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) is recognized by UGC (Union Grant Commission) as I want to check it before taking admission in it?

KSOU or Karnataka State Open University was formally established on June 1, 1996 under the Karnataka State Open University Act of 1992 for introducing and promoting the system of Open University and distance learning in Karnataka state, and coordinating and determining the standard of such a system in the state.

KSOU Recognition

It is recognized by Distance Education Council (DEC), UGC, New Delhi till the academic year 2012-13.

UGC has discontinued recognition to programmes offered by KSOU beyond 2012-13 as per the public notice 16th June 2015 from UGC.

IT is a regular member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Delhi, permanent member of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) London UK, Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), Beijing, China and also has association with Commonwealth of Learning (COL).

Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi, has accorded recognition to it for offering Programmes / Courses approved by the Statutory bodies of the University.

It is a recognized University of Distance Education Council under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) (Revised notification F. No. DEC/OU/Recog./2008).

Objectives
It came into being to achieve the following objectives:

• Providing access to high quality education to all those who seek it, irrespective of age, region or formal qualifications.
• Offering need – based academic Programmes by giving professional and vocational orientation to the programme.
• Promoting and developing distance education in India
• Relaxed entry regulations
• Providing opportunities to study according to one’s own pace and convenience
• Flexibility in choosing the combination of courses from a wide range of disciplines
• Providing opportunity to study from one’s own chosen place and pace
