PART-I

PAPER -I : Non – Chordate Full Marks : 75
[Seven questions to be attempted. Question 1 of 15 marks (short type and to be set from all units equally, preferably some with 1 mark and others with 2 marks)] is compulsory. Six questions (each of 10 marks) taking two from each unit to be attempted from the rest. These questions should have at least two parts.]

UNIT I : Protozoa to Aschelminthes Marks 25
1. Introduction to non-chordata
2. Subkingdom Protozoa : Salient features and outline classification up to subphylum.
Functional anatomy related to locomotion, and reproduction of Euglena, Paramoecum
and Amocba.
3. Porifera salient features and outline classification up to subclasses, Canal system
and skeletal system of Porifera.
4. Cnidaria : Salient features and outline classification up to subclasses
Functional anatomy related to reproduction of Obelia. Polymorphism in
Siphonophora. Coral and formation of coral reefs.
5. Ctenophora : salient features and affinities of Ctenophora
6. Platyhelminthes : Salient features and outline classification up to Subclasses
Life cycle and parasitic adaptation of Fasciola hepatica.
7. Aschelminthes : Salient features and classification up to subclasses. Reproduction 4
and life cycle of Ascaris sp.

UNIT II :Annelida to Arthropoda Marks

8. Annelida : Salient features and outline classification up to subclasses.
Circulation and reproduction of Pheretima. Excretion of Annelida.
Trophophbre larva and it evolutionary significance.
9. Types and signficance of coelom. Metamerism and its significance
10. Arthropoda : Salient features and outline classification up to subclasses.
Circularatory, excretory and reproductive systems of Periplaneta. Respiratory system of Arthropoda. Life history of Sacculina and effect of parasitism on Sacculma and its host. Anatomical peculiarities and affinities of Peripatus and Horse shoe crab.

UNIT III : Mollusca, Echinodermata and hemichoredata
11. Mollusca : Salient features and outline classification up to subclasses. General
organization of Pila. Foot modifications in Mollusca. Torsion in Gastropod a.
12. Echinodermata : Salient features and outline classification up to Subsclasses.
Water vascular system in echinodermatas; phylogenetic relationshpip and
evolutionary significance of echninoderm larvae.
13. Hemichordata : Salient features; Balanoglosasus : General structures, feeding and
excretion; affinities and phylogeny. Tornaria larva.
