Department of Biotechnology, Savitribai Phule Pune University was Established in 1994

The Faculty Members Have been Excellent Teachers and Research Scientists, and most of them are fellows of National Academies.


Its Offers a two year M.Sc. Biotechnology Course supported by the Department of Biotechnology(DBT), Government of India.

It also offers M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in Biotechnology and related areas.

Department has its own small Library

The Library Has, as of Today, Around 1000 Books on Basic Physical and Life Sciences, besides Biotechnology per se.

The journals available are, Nature, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Structural Biology, Nature reviews on Drug Discovery, Trends in Biochemical Sciences, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci., Science. J. Biosci., Current Sci., & Journal of Genetics.

The faculty and students have access to the University main library (Jayakar Library), and the libraries at Zoology, Bioinformatics Centre, NCL, NCCS and NIV.
