Default Re: Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA) Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility requirements for Special Class Railway Apprentices’ (SCRA) Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission are as follows:

1. Nationality: One must be either
i. a citizen of India, or
ii. a subject of Nepal, or
iii. a subject of Bhutan, or
iv.a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 01 January , 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(v). a Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakisthan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawim Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently setting in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

2. Age:
One must have attained the age of 17 years and must not have attained the age of 21 years.

3. Age Relaxations:
(a) For SC/ST candidates 5 years
(b) For OBC candidates 3 years
(c) For 3 years in case of defence services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or disturbed area.
(d) 5 years Age relaxable for Ex-service men including commissioned officers and ECOs/ SSCOs who have completed an initial period of a assignment of 5 years military service.
(e) 5 years age relaxable in the case of ECOs /SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of 5 years of military service.
(f) 10 years age relaxation for blind, deaf, deaf, mute and orthopaedically handicapped candidates.
(g) 5 years age relaxable if one had ordinal been domiciled in the state of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 01-01-1980 to 31-12-1989

4. Educational Qualifications:
(i) One must have passed in 1st or 2nd division in the intermediate or an equivalent exam of a recognised university or board approved by the Government of India with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the exam.
Graduates with Mathematics and minimum 1 of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as their degree subjects may also apply.

(or)

(ii) One must have passed in 1st or 2nd division in the higher secondary (12 years) exam under 10+2 pattern of school education with Mathematics and minimum 1 of the subject Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the exam.

(or)

(iii) One must passed the 1st year exam under the 3 years degree course from the recognised university or 1st exam of 3 years diploma course in Rural Service of the National Council for Rural Higher Education or 3rd year Exam for promotion to the 4th year of the four year B.A./B.Sc.(Evening College) Course of the Madras University with Mathematics and minimum 1 of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the exam provided that before joining the degree/ diploma course one passed the Higher Secondary exam or the Pre-University or equivalent exam in 1st or 2nd division.

One who has passed the 1st/2nd year exam under 3 year degree course in 1st or 2nd division with Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry as subjects of the Examination may also apply.

(or)

(iv) One must have passed in 1st or 2nd division in the pre-engineering exam from the recognised university.

(v) One must have passed in 1st or 2nd the pre-professional or Pre-Technological Exam of the recognised university with Mathematics and at least, one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects.

(or)

(vi)The 5 years engineering degree course one must have passed in 1st year exam from the recognised university. One who has passed the first year Exam of the five-year Engineering Degree Course in 1st or 2nd division also apply provided 1st year Exam is conducted by a University.

(or)

(vii) One must have passed 1st or 2nd division in the pre-degree exam of the University of Kerala with Mathematics and minimum, one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the exam.

5. Physical Standards:
One must be physically fit and according to physical standards for admission to Special Class Railway Apprentices Exam.
