The Gauhati University which is situated in Jalukbari, Guwahati, is the primary, most established and prestigious University in the whole North East India. It was built up in 1948. It is an educating cum-affiliating college. There are a few universities, establishments and so forth that are partnered to this college. At present there are roughly 326 Colleges/Institutes which goes under this college, which are for the most part situated in the regions of lower Assam.

Organization

Gauhati University was set up by a demonstration of the State Legislature, in particular, the Gauhati University Act 1947 (Assam Act, XVI of 1947), of the Government of Assam in the year 1948. The University is supported by the University Grants Commission and the Government of Assam. In addition, different offices of the Central and State Governments give different awards and help to Research and other Academic exercises. The University is in its 58th year of presence, and is the most seasoned, the biggest, and the most debut seat of advanced education in the whole North Eastern Region of India.
