11. A prestressed concrete beam 200mm wide and 400mm deep is prestressed with wires of area 375mm2 located at constant eccentricity of 100mm and carrying an initial stress of 1300N/mm2. The span of the beam is 10m. Calculate the percentage of loss of stress in wires if
(a) the beam is pretensioned and
(b) the beam is post tensioned using the following data: Es = 210 kN/mm2, Ec = 35 kN/mm2, relaxation of steel stress = 5% of initial stress, shrinkage concrete = 300 x 10-6 for pretensioning and 200 x 10-6 for post tensioning, creep coefficient = 1.6, slip at anchorage = 1.5mm, frictional coefficient for wave effect = 0.0015/m. Assume the wires are simultaneously tensioned in the case of post tensioning system.

13. A pretensioned T-section is having flange width of 1300mm and thickness 125mm. the width and depth of rib is 230mm and 1500mm respectively. The area of high tensile steel is 5000mm2 located at an effective depth of 1550mm. If the characteristic strength of concrete and steel are 40N/mm2 and 1600 N/mm2, calculate the flexural strength of T-beam.

14. A post tensioned prestressed concrete beam of rectangular section 300mm wide x 750mm deep is prestressed by an effective force of 190 kN acting at an eccentricity of 200mm. At service load conditions, a section of beam is subjected to a bending moment of 260 kNm and a transverse shear force of 110 kN. If fck = 40 N/mm2, f¬¬¬y = 415 N/mm2, fp = 1700 N/mm2, design suitable shear reinforcement in the section using IS:1343 – 1980 recommendations. Ap = 275mm2, fpe = 750 MPa.

15. A concrete beam is having a rectangular section 150mm wide and 350mm deep presetressed by parabolic and straight tendons with eccentric anchors having eccentricity of 75mm below the neutral axis and 30mm at the supports. Here 11 = 2m and 12 = 2.5m. If the span of the beam is 9m and the live load is 2.5 kN/m, estimate the short time deflection at the centre of the beam. Assuming E = 38 kN/mm2, creep coefficient = 2.0, loss of prestress = 20% of initial stress after 6 months. Estimate the long term deflection at the centre of the span and assuming that the dead and live loads are simultaneously applied after the release of prestress. The prestressing force is 250kN.

A concrete beam is of I-section having flanges of 300mm x 15mm and web of 250mm x 15mm prestressed by trapezoidal tendon having eccentricity of 75mm below the neutral axis and zero at the supports. Here 11 = 1.5m and 12 = 2.5m. If the span of the beam is 8m and the live load is 2.0 kN/m, estimate the short time deflection at the centre of the beam. Assuming E = 38 kN/mm2, creep coefficient = 2.0, loss of prestress = 15% of initial stress after 6 months.
