1. The applicant completes an ‘Expression of Interest’ form and sends it to the Assessment Only Coordinator.

2. If the requirements seem to have been met, the applicant and school complete an Application form and Required Information Form (RIF).

3. The applicant and AO Coordinator are interviewed by the university to ensure suitability for the programme.

4. The applicant passes the skills tests in English and maths.

5. The applicant completes the 2nd school placement (if required, depending on personal experience and the current school context), and fulfils any conditions discussed at interview.

6. The applicant is registered with the NCTL and starts the programme.

7. A university tutor makes an initial visit to the school and carries out lesson observations and discussions with applicant and AO Coordinator. A development plan is drawn up.

8. The teacher has between 6 and 12 weeks to build a file to show he/she is meeting the standards for QTS. The Assessment Only Coordinator completes the Record of Programme.

9. The University tutor returns to carry out further lesson observations, discussions and check the evidence file at Final Assessment. The completed Record of Programme will be scrutinised and taken away by the assessor.

10. The university recommends the teacher for award of QTS.

11. The teacher would then be in a position to commence their NQT year.
