Admission Criteria for Sixth Form of Virgo Fidelis Convent School

As a Roman Catholic Sixth Form, welcoming of other faiths, we place a strong emphasis on community and mutual support. The structured environment we provide encourages students not just to realize their academic potential but also to develop values which will enable them to face the challenges of the modern world with confidence and play an effective role in society.
We are looking for students who are committed to their faith, to success in their studies, who are loyal and forward thinking. Applications are welcomed from those who wish to pursue post 16 courses within a Christian environment.
The criteria for admission are as follows:
i) looked after children and previously looked after children who have been adopted or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order, immediately after being looked after.
ii) any other children meeting the requirements listed below.

Entry requirements for Study in the Sixth Form (GCE AS Levels, IB, IBCC, Level 3 and Level 2 courses);
10 GCSEs or equivalent at grade A*- B including Maths and English for five AS Levels
8 GCSEs or equivalent at grade A*-B including Mathematics and English for four AS Levels.
6 GCSEs or equivalent at grade A*- B including Mathematics and English for three AS Levels, IB Diploma Course or IBCC (International Baccalaureate Career-related Certificate).
5 GCSEs or equivalent at grade A*-C including Maths and English for L3 vocational courses.
3-4 GCSEs or equivalent at grade A*- D for Level 2 courses and GCSE retakes including Maths and English.
4 GCSEs at grade A*-D including Maths and English for Beauty and Hairdressing courses.

The requirement for most GCE AS level courses such as Maths, English, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Psychology and Modern Languages is grade B in the appropriate GCSE subject. If the GCE AS subject chosen has not previously been studied at GCSE level, then a grade B in English and Mathematics is desirable. A student not achieving at least a grade C in Maths and English will be expected to retake the relevant course and repeat the examination in Year 12.
When a course is over-subscribed, priority will be given to students from Virgo Fidelis Convent Senior School.
The deadline for applications for entry in September 2013 is Thursday 31st January 2013. Applications received after this date will be considered in strict order of receipt once all applications submitted on time have been processed.
All suitably qualified applicants are invited to attend an interview with one of the Sixth Form team to discuss their career aspirations and proposed course of study. Offers of places are made subject to students achieving their predicted grades at GCSE and other Level 2 qualifications, although there is scope for a limited degree of flexibility.
Progression to Year 13 is not automatic. At the end of Year 12 each student has a meeting with the Head or Deputy Head of Sixth Form to review achievement, attendance and other relevant issues.
