Default Re: Negative Marking Scheme for GATE

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination which is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology

GATE Negative Marking Scheme

-For 1-mark multiple-choice questions, 1/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer.
-Likewise, for 2-marks multiple-choice questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer.
-However, for the linked answer question pair, where each question carries 2 marks, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer to the first question only.
-There is no negative marking for wrong answer to the second question of the linked answer question pair.
-If the first question in the linked pair is wrongly answered or is unattempted, then the answer to the second question in the pair will not be evaluated.
-There is no negative marking for numerical answer type questions.

GATE Exam Pattern:

-GATE Exam will be held for 22 papers
-Candidates can apply for one paper only and therefore are advised to choose a paper corresponding to the discipline of the qualifying degree.
-There will be two types of questions in all GATE 2014 Papers – multiple choice and numerical type
-The GATE Exam Paper will be for 3 hours of duration with 65 questions for 100 marks
