RAW Stands for Research Analytical Wing, To join RAW, you need to appear in written exam which is conducted by UPSC every year Selection Procedure- Written Interview Medical You should have following Qualities: Physical fitness Stamina Mental alertness Ability to adapt to long working hours Analytical thinking Willingness to work in adverse conditions and dangerous territories. The RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) is the primary foreign intelligence agency of India. It was created after the Sino-Indian War 1962 and Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 which exposed gaps in intelligence gathering undertaken by the Intelligence Bureau. RAW was formed in September 1968 under the guidance of its first Director, Rameshwar Nath Kao. Primary function of R&AW is gathering foreign intelligence and counter-terrorism. In addition, it is responsible for obtaining and analyzing information about foreign governments, corporations and persons to advise Indian policymakers. Headquartered in of RAW is in New Delhi, RAW's current chief is Alok Joshi a 1976-batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre. Parent agency: Prime Minister's Office Child agencies : • The Aviation Research Centre • Radio Research Center • Electronics and Technical Services • National Technical Research Organisation • Special Frontier Force There are four steps to becoming a spy for RAW: • Get Realistic • Meet the Basic and Advanced Criteria • Apply • Go through vetting Basic requirements to become a spy: • Don’t get in trouble with the law. • Don’t do drugs. • Most intelligence organizations including R&AW expect their officers to have a good education so take good education. • Most spies have to travel to foreign countries. There are roles without travel but you will limit your chances. • You must be a citizen of your country and so must the rest of your close family. Advanced Criteria: Learn a foreign language Do some sport Show you can work long hours Show leadership Don't hide anything Procedure to Apply: Jobs advertised as Deputy Field Officer, Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India are thought to be recruiting for R&AW so apply there. Entrance through the National Academy of Administration may be possible. Vetting: Vetting builds a complete a picture of you to make sure you won’t be a security risk. You will have to show and give evidence of your followings: • Family background • Drug use and any other addictions (e.g. gambling) • Mental health • Finances • Political views • Travel to foreign countries Required documents: • Identity Documents • Marriage/partnership documents • References for employment, education and character • Bills • Bank, savings, loans and other credit details accounts
