As I am new in the city can you give me details about the Columbia University Housing as I want to take admission there for I will be doing my further studies from the University only

You can find two types of Housing:
Columbia University Housing
Columbia University Off-Campus Housing

Eligibility for Columbia University Housing:

Housing in Campus buildings is available for full-time students in housing eligible programs:
Graduate or professional schools
School of General Studies
First year transfer students enrolled in the School of Engineering Undergraduate Combined Plan Program
American Language Program Students (ALP) in the School of Continuing Education

What you will get in the Columbia University Housing is as follows:

Furnished Units
Student housing is either furnished or unfurnished. All accommodations contain a stove and a refrigerator. Based on the apartment/room size and layout, furnished housing generally contains the following:

Bedrooms:
Extra-long twin bed (full size bed for couples)
Dresser
Desk and desk chair
Lamp

Living rooms and kitchens:
Couch and additional chairs
Table with chairs

Responsibilities of the tenant:
Linens
Dishes, cutlery, cooking utensils
Air conditioners
Dishwashers - Only available at The Arbor
Area rugs - Students are responsible for providing rugs that cover 80% of the floor area to comply with the terms of the lease.

Laundry
Coin or card operated laundry facilities are available to all residents, typically in the basement or adjacent building.

Application for housing:

For Housing in Campus you have to apply online. Right now the Fall 2013 Housing Application is closed and the Spring 2014 Housing Application will be available from October 15.
