Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute was set up in July 6, 1917 and presently it is located in Pune, Maharashtra, India. Sambhaji Brigade which is Maratha right-wing extremist organization located in Maharashtra has own history and its named after Sambhaji, son of the first Maratha king Shivaji and gained exposure after they attacked and vandalised the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute in Pune.
