Union Public Service Commission Indian Administrative Services exam is divided into 2 parts:

PRELIMINARY EXAM
MAIN EXAM

PRELIMINARY EXAM
In Prelims Exam, there are two papers of 200 marks each
Both the papers will be on Objective Type based pattern
The papers will be set in both the languages, Hindi and English.

MAIN EXAM:
There is total number of seven papers in Main Exam of UPSC Civil Services.

Paper 1 consists of two sections, first section consists of an essay of 200 marks and second section consists of comprehension type question up to 10th class level.

Paper 2, 3, 4 and 5 are General Studies based papers of 250 marks each. Topics covered in these papers are:

General Studies 1-
Indian Culture and Heritage, History and Geography of the Society and World

General Studies 2-
Governance, Polity, Constitution, International relations and Social Justice

General Studies 3- Technology, Bio-diversity, Economic Development, Environment, Disaster Management and Security

General Studies 4-
Ethics, Aptitude and Integrity

Paper 6 and 7 are optional subjects of 250 marks each

Total marks of written exam are 1800 and an interview or personality test of 275 marks is also conducted.

UPSC CIVIL SERVICES 2014 SYLLABUS FOR PRELIMINARY PAPERS IS MENTIONED BELOW:

• PAPER 1 (200 Marks) (2 Hours):
1. Current affairs and events of national and international importance.
2. India National Movement and History of India.
3. India and World Geography.
4. Indian Polity and Governance.
5. Social and Economic Development.
6. General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change.
7. General Science.

• PAPER 2 (200 Marks) (2 Hours):
1. Comprehension.
2. Communication and Interpersonal skills.
3. Decision Making and Problem Solving.
4. Analytical ability and Logical reasoning.
5. General Mental Ability.
6. Basic numeracy, Data interpretation.
7. English Language Comprehension Skills.

UPSC CIVIL SERVICES 2014 SYLLABUS FOR MAINS EXAM IS MENTIONED BELOW:
• Paper– 1: Any One Indian Language.
• Paper- 2: English.
• Paper– 3: Essay.
• Paper– 4 & 5: General Studies.
• Paper– 6, 7, 8 and 9: Any 2 subjects from the list mentioned below:
