Maharaja's College, which was the centre of the University of Mysore in the beginning, is now a Constituent College offering Degree Courses in Arts, Commerce and Business Administration, post graduate courses in Criminology and Forensic Science, International Relations, Geography and P.G. Diploma in Criminology and Correctional Administration.


Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)


Eligibility for Admission

One who has passed 2Year Pre-University Exam conducted by the Pre-University Board of Education in the State of Karnataka or any other exam considered as equivalent thereto by the University is eligible for admission to the First Semester of the Course.

a. One who has passed any JOC (10+2) is eligible to join the First Semester B.A.
b. One who has passed the following JOC (10+2) courses is eligible to join


Curriculum (Semester Scheme)

1. In the First Semester there shall be 6 papers viz., 2 languages, Constitution of India and 3 Optional Subjects.
2. In the Second Semester there shall be 6 papers viz., 2 languages, Environmental Studies and 3 optional Subjects.
3. In the Third Semester there shall be 5 papers viz., 2 languages and 3 Optional Subjects.
4. In the Fourth Semester there shall be 6 papers viz., 2 languages, Computer Applications and 3 optional subjects.
5. In the Fifth & Sixth Semesters there shall be 3 Optional, each optional having 3 papers.


Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction for B.A. shall be English or Kannada depending on the medium chosen by the student. A candidate may write the examination of the entire paper either in English or in Kannada.


Subjects of Study:
B.A. Degree candidates shall select 3 optional subjects approved by the Board of Studies as per the Regulations


Group I – Languages

One shall study any two of the following languages: English, Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Persian, Arabic, French, German and Russian.

1. Out of the two languages selected, one of the languages shall be an Indian language. However, in the case of foreign nationals, the need of an Indian language is waived by the University.

2. Indian Language means any one of the languages mentioned in the VIII Schedule of the Constitution.

3. The University may permit private study of a language by a student, if there is no provision for instruction in that language in a college and allow him/her to appear for the exam in the subject without insisting on attendance. Such candidates will not be subjected to any IA marks. However, for eventual calculation of 80 marks is equated to 100 marks.

4. Deaf and Dumb, Spastic, Mentally challenged and students with Learning disability shall offer any one language.

5. One who opts for Optional English, Archaeology & Museology should study only in English Medium.

6. One applying for the above combinations are should indicate the preference in application forms under 2 groups. If one is not selected for any one of the groups indicated, one will have to accept the available combination and the medium.

7. If the number of students in any combination is less than 15, such combinations will not be offered.

8. One has to compulsorily open a Bank Account in the State Bank of India Campus Branch.
