Group Discussion are conducted to test decision-making attributes like interpersonal skills, leadership,
Analytical and rational thinking,
Knowledge and
Personality traits

The following three main tools

Group Discussion,
Personal Interview &
Written Ability Test

These tools are the three main tools through which the B schools conduct their admission process, after the scores for
CAT,
XAT and
Other exams are out.

Personal Interview (PI)
A personal interview is aimed at knowing a candidate more closely - assessing the clarity of thinking process, Future goals and the 'fit' with the B-school.

Interviewers expand an impression of you in the first few minutes of the meeting, and
Expend the rest of the interview confirming their initial feeling

Group discussion (GD) Tips

GD committee member generally see following thing in candidate:
-Ability to work in a team
-Flexibility
-Leadership skills
-Assertiveness
-Ability to think and act independently
-Communication skills
-Reasoning ability
-Initiativeness
-Creatibility

Tips for Group Discussion:

-Train yourself to be a good listener
-Seek opportunities to discuss these in groups.
-The only way to prepare is to read more, develop a keen interest in current affairs.
-Writing essays on a variety of topics is good practice developing thought structure.
-Train your mind to think analytically.
-Your GD arguments should have ‘meat’.
-Learn to respect others for what they are.
-Learn to be open-minded and recognize the fact that people think differently about issues.
-Acknowledge that everyone has something valuable to say.
-Inculcate the good habit of structuring your thoughts and presenting them logically.

Be natural
Body Gestures are very Important.
Keep different perspective.
Subject matter is essential.
Be Aware of Topics that are Repeated.

-Don’t start with the phrase – Myself XYZ
-Don’t say things like – I studied this in my first year – as an excuse for not knowing more basic because panel members study this about 20 years back – they still remember about it.
-Getting into details about siblings and cousins –As Panelists want to know about you, not about your extended family.
-Don’t cite – ‘making friends’ or ‘meeting new people’ – as a hobby
