Goa University was based in 1985 and joint with the Centre for Post Graduate Instruction and Research (CPIR) of the University of Bombay (at present Mumbai) that operated at state-capital Panaji or Panjim. Goa University is regarded the centre for higher teaching in Goa, India's lowest state. Goa University has twenty-three post-graduate departments and 2 centres of studies providing academic programmes which lead to the Masters and Doctorate (Ph.D) programmes across various fields.
