Anna University follows Grade system, it offers following Letter grades and corresponding Grade Points are awarded,

Note:
-S is the highest and E is the lowest
-I for prevention cases (shortage of attendance, which is attendance less than 75%)

Anna University (AU), formerly Perarignar Anna University of Technology (PAUT), is a technical university. It became an affiliating university in 2001, absorbing about 250 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu.

Grade System:

The University has adopted the Grading system, and “Grade Point Average” instead of the traditional marks system and will publish mark lists eventually with “SGPA” or “Semester Grade Point Average” and later from 2nd Semester onwards by “CGPA” or the “Cumulative Grade Point Average“ system.

This system has grades varying from “O” which is “Outstanding”, “E” for “Excellent”, “A” for “Very Good”, “B” for “Good”, “C” for “Above Average”, “D” for “Average” and “S” for “Satisfactory”. The notation of “F(I)” stands for “Failed (in Internal)”; “F(X)” stands for “Failed in External”, “F(B)” stands for “Failed in both”; “I” for “Incomplete data” .

Anna University Exams are conducted in Every six month gap and lakhs of students are writing there exams in every semester. Credits points and Grades Points are provided by the University for the Students. Credits points 1,2,3,4,6,12 are provided by Anna University under various categories. and Also Grade Points such as S,A,B,C,D,E,U,I,W are also provided by Anna University under certain categories.

Credit system details for each course (subject/paper):
A theory course of 45 hours duration – 3 credits.
A theory course of 45 hours with additional 15 hours of laboratory classes or tutorial classes – 4 credits
A practical course of 45 hours of laboratory classes – 2 credits
A practical course of 30 hours of laboratory classes – 1 credit.
UG project work in the final semester of 180 hours – 6 credits

Masters’ degree project work is divided into two phases
Phase-I in III semester – 180 hours – 6 credits
Phase-II in IV semester 360 hours – 12 credits
