Allelic and non allelicinteractions, recessive and dominant traits, Multiple alleles , lethal alleles,Polygenic inheritance. Unit-2: Extra chromosomal inheritance (12 Hours) Chloroplast mutation: variegation in 4 o’clock plant; mitochondrial mutations in yeast, maternal effects of shell coiling in snails, infective heredity – kappa particles in Paramaecium. Unit-3:Linkage, crossing over and chromosomal mapping (12 Hours) Linkage: chromosomal theory of linkage, complete and incompletelinkage, crossing over:mechanism of crossing over. Recombination frequency, two point and three point test cross, interference and coincidence. Gene mapping and sex linkage. Unit-4: Chromosomal alternations (12 Hours) Structural modifications: Deletions, Duplications, Inversions and Translocation; position effect; Numerical changes: Euploidy(autopolyploidy and allopolyploidy) and Aneuploidy ( Trisomy, nullisomy & monosomy). Unit-5 Gene mutations (12 Hours) Types of mutations; Molecular basis of mutations, physical and chemical mutagens, role of mutations in crop improvement. Transposable elements: transposable elements in prokaryotes (Is and Tn element) and eukaryotes (Ac-Ds). Mechanism of transposition and its role in mutations. DNA damage and repair mechanism.
