Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani is an Indian institute of higher education and a deemed university under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 About the PhD Aspirant” Programme This document describes the admission process and operation of “PhD Aspirant” programme of BITS Pilani. Every candidate admitted under scheme will be governed by the Rules and Regulation of BITS Pilani as stated in Academic Regulation of the Institute Eligibility Criteria Candidate should be working in an organization that collaborate with BITS Pilani for Practice school/Research/WILP activities. 2. Candidate should hold ME/ MS degree of BITS Pilani or its equivalent with minimum of 60% marks. 3. Should be able to choose one of the BITS faculty as supervisor. However, co-supervisor may be chosen from his organization. 4. Should obtain no objection certificate from his/her organization Ph. D. Qualifying Examination In the beginning of each semester, the DRC will announce dates and research sub-areas for conducting examination. Each Ph.D. student will inform DRC, about the choice of research subarea from the list of areas identified by the department. Semester Work The DRC will recommend the courses to be done by each student, to Associate Dean, ARD. In the first semester (after clearing the qualifying examination), a PhD Aspirant will register in (i) Practice Lecture Series-1 and (ii) Independent Study course, in his first semester followed by (i) Research Methodology and (ii) Independent Study, in the second semester. Thesis submission The candidate will check the thesis for plagiarism and submit to the DRC: (i) 4 copies of the thesis, (ii) 5 copies of the synopsis, (iii) the reports of the DAC members, (iv) Soft copies of thesis (as single pdf file and synopsis in CD and (v) other related documents as mentioned in check-list. PhD supervisor will submit the list and detail of 6-8 potential examiners in the required format (in sealed envelope) who have proven research record in the area in which thesis is submitted, (v) The DRC will check the suitability of potential examiner submitted by the supervisor and forward to Dean, ARD.
