Purdue's Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) program is respected by leaders in the construction industry across the United States as one of the best—many say the best—engineering degree in preparation for a professional future in construction.

Objectives

The educational objectives set by the Division of Construction Engineering and Management at Purdue University for graduates of the BSCNE degree program are as follows:
• To get leadership positions within their industry organizations
• To add to the advancement of the profession through participation in education, mentoring, and research
• To follow professional advancement through registration, certification, etc.
• To continue the education through life-long learning opportunities, graduate studies, and/or self study
• To hold in global/societal advancement through use of their professional talents to serve the communities in which they reside and by engaging in the dialogue surrounding the societal impact of engineering decisions

Student Outcomes

One pursuing the BSCNE degree is expected to know and be able to do the following by the time of graduation:
• Reveal an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
• Exhibit an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
• Display an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
• Exhibit an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
• Show an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
• Display an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
• Display an ability to communicate effectively
• Demonstrate the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
• Show a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
• Demonstrate a knowledge of contemporary issues
• Demonstrate an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice
