IITM Branch Change

Hi buddy would you plz tell me rules to do change branch in B.tech program at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT M), as my friend want to change it computer science to civil engineering ??

As you asking I am telling at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT M), students can change their branch after the first semester. The change can be categorized as branch change (moving to a higher rank cutoff branch) or branch slide (to a branch with lower rank cutoff). The general guidelines for these changes are :

Applications for branch changes are invited after the first semester, and the Grade Point Average (GPA) of the semester is the only criterion considered, with a few other restrictions.

B. Tech and dual degree applications are considered separately, also the degree remains the same after branch change.

It is also possible to switch to a different specialization within the same branch for dual degree students.

The 10% rule : the branch strength after all the changes cannot change (lower or higher) than 10%.

For example, in computer science B. Tech program, if the original number of students (strength) is 20-25, no more than 2 students can come into C.S. B. Tech program unless someone moves out of this program.
