Surguja University is a state university established by Act (adhiniyam) No. 18 of 2008 by the state legislature of Chattisgarh. It started functioning from 2nd, September 2008.

Its territorial jurisdiction comprises of entire Sarguja division comprising of revenue districts of Korea, Sarguja and Jaspur. At present it is having 42 affiliated colleges offering various courses in the areas of arts, science, commerce, education, law, management, social & life science, etc.

The state government has allotted 220 acres of land nearby Ambikapur, Ramanujganj Road just 10 k.m. away from Ambikapur town. It is partially residential.
