English Language Requirements for International and EU Applicants IELTS 6.0 - for visa nationals, with a minimum score of IELTS 5.5 in each element Modules- Year 1 You’ll ask key questions about education’s purpose, practices and outcomes in core modules. You’ll also study ‘Introduction to Youth and Community Work,’ where you’ll develop an understanding of the core values of youth and community work and what distinguishes youth work from other professions. You’ll develop interpersonal and group work skills essential to practice as well as exploring conceptualistions of community and community work. Year 2 You’ll have the opportunity to complete a placement in the UK, in a youth work, community or education setting. You’ll also study ‘Youth in Society,’ developing your understanding of how young people's transitions to adulthood are shaped by their surroundings. You’ll develop skills and knowledge relating to youth voice, empowerment and participation and learn how to develop projects that enable young people to make changes in their own lives. Year 3 You’ll conduct a dissertation research project in youth and community studies, exploring a topic that you feel passionate about. You’ll also study ‘Young People, Identities and Subcultures’ exploring young people’s individual and collective identities and using media analysis to explore the representation of young people. Course assessment You’ll be assessed through coursework. There are no exams. Assessments include activity plans for work with young people, essays, reflective pieces, group presentations, media research-based reports and a manifesto speech. We’ll provide you with regular feedback on how well you are doing and give you regular guidance on how to improve your skills, knowledge and understanding.
