UNIT I
Social Work: Meaning, Definition, Goals, Values, Scope and Principles. Relation and
distinction between Social Work and related concepts such as Social Service, Social Reform, Social Welfare and Social Justice. Brief overview of different Methods of Social Work.

UNIT II
History of Social Work in the West: Origin and Development of Organized / Scientific Charity in the U.K.; Origin and Development of Social Work in the U.S.A.; Efforts towards gaining a Professional status; Models of Social Work: Clinical Social Work, Ecological Social Work, and Critical Social Work.


UNIT III
History of Social Work in India: Efforts for social change in India through Vedic Ideology, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Islam, Christianity and Hindu Reform Movements; Ideologies of Gandhi, Ambedkar and Indian Constitution; Origin and Development of Social Work
Education in India.


UNIT IV

Ideologies related to Social Work: Modernism, Welfarism, Socialism, Feminism, Rights-based and Inclusive Development, Sustainable and People-centered Development.



UNIT V

Professional Identity of Social Work: Professional Attributes; Code of Ethics; Professional Associations; Emerging Fields of Social Work; Career prospects for Trained Social Workers; Emerging Trends in Social Work.
