Marine Engineering and Research Institute is national institute of India for the training of marine engineers. Marine Engineering & Research Institute is the national institute for Marine engineers training. The MERI institute is the oldest maritime training institute of India. Pre Sea Training: The Institute offers one year Pre Sea Training for graduates in Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture. The course commences in January every year and has the capacity of 120 seats of these, as many seats as possible are filled up by the candidates selected and nominated by various Shipping Companies. Eligibility: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Naval Architecture from a College approved by All India Council for Technical Education Or The I.I.T.. Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical & Automation Engineering are also eligible for admission to this course, subject to their fulfilling additional requirements of D.G. Shipping. Minimum average of 50% marks in the final year of Degree. At least 50% marks in English at the 10th or at the 12th standard. Age limit of 28 years Should be medically fit for sea service as required for Engine Department Seats remaining vacant are filled up by directly inducting candidates. MERI advertises for these vacant seats during November / December every year. Selection is through merit and personal interviews. Advertisement may be published in advance if necessary. How To Apply: Application form may be downloaded from official website of IMU, Mumbai. The application form can also be obtained from the office (Indian Maritime University, Marine Engineering & Research Institute) through in person or through post by enclosing 25 cms x 13 cms size self addressed stamped 20/-) envelope. Completed application form together with Demand Draft for Rs.1,000 (issued by a nationalised bank in the name of “Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Campus” payable at Mumbai) should reach M.E.R.I.-Mumbai on or before 3rd January, 2013. Fee Structure: The Fee for the is INR 3, 00,000 and is payable in two installments. The fee includes tuition, boarding and lodging fees, uniform expenses and cost of other training facilities. This fee is determined by the Indian Maritime University (IMU) and approved by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India and is subject to revision as appropriate and is binding on the cadets.
