The National Institute of Technology, Agartala is a technology-oriented institute of higher education established by India's Ministry of Human Resource Development Government of India in Agartala, India and was founded in 1965 and declared a National Institute of Technology (NIT) in 2006.

It is now known as Knowledge hub, with the introduction of more specialised subjects like hydroinformatics and aeronautics

NIT Agartala is ranked 52nd best engineering college of India 2016 and 14th among NITs by National Institutional Ranking Framework, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

It is also ranked 89th best university of India 2016 by National Institutional Ranking Framework, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

This is the first NIT to enter the list of Best Universities of India 2016 by National Institutional Ranking Framework

It has also received awards from the first World Education Congress in the category of engineering colleges, and has been recognised among best Government Engineering Colleges by ABP News National B-School Awards in 2012 and in 2013.
