Institute of Armament Technology (IAT) is now known as Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT)
It was formed in the year 1952.
It is a type of deemed university.
It is located in Pune, Maharashtra, India.

In 1980, IAT was affiliated to the University of Pune which recognized eight post graduate courses offered by IAT for the award of Master of Engineering (ME) degree.

IAT was granted deemed-to-be university status in 2006 and was renamed as Defence Institute of Advanced Technology on 1 April 2006. Thereafter it started awarding degree by itself (earlier it was awarded by University of Pune).
