After reading a story, your child should be able to answer the following questions. These are generic comprehension question that apply to most stories. You can stop during the reading of the story to ask the question or prepare your child to look for the information to answer a specific question.



1) Who are the main characters in the story? Describe how they look and act.



2) Are there any important supporting characters? If so, name them.



3) Where does the story take place (setting)? Is the setting critical to the story, or could this story take place anywhere else? Where?



4) What is the problem the main character must solve or overcome (conflict)?



5) How does the character solve his problem? Do other obstacles get in the way of solving the main conflict? What are they?



6) What character do you most identify with? Why?



7) What did you like most about this story? The least? If you could have changed anything about this story, what would it be?
