In the order to become IAS officer you need to crack the Civil Services Examination, which is conducted by the UPSC. Following are the details of this examination:

Required qualification:
The candidate must hold a degree of any Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India

Age Limits
21-30 years as on 1st August of the year of Examination.

General category 30 years
SC/ST 35 Years
OBC 33 years
blind, deaf-mute and Orthopaedically handicapped persons 40 years
Citizen of Jammu and Kashmir 35 years
Defense Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof 33 years
Ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service 35 years

Nationality:
A candidate must be a citizen of:
A citizen of India, or
A subject of Nepal, or
A subject of Bhutan, or
A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

October - November
