Civil Services Examination (CSE) is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the various Civil Services of the Government of India Prescribed age limits to appear for Civil Services Examination (CSE) are minimum 21 years and maximum of 30 years as on 1 August of the year of Examination. Age limit required for females is same as of men. There is no such other age criteria for women Upper age limit relaxation is provided to candidates as follows: A maximum of three years -- for OBC candidates [Non Creamy Layer only] A maximum of three years-- in case of Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country A maximum of five years --- for candidates belonging to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe A maximum of five years --- in case of ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years Military Service as on 1 August and whose assignment has been extended beyond five years A maximum of ten years in case of --blind, deaf-mute and orthopaedically handicapped persons A maximum of five years --- if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 1 January 1980 to 31 December 1989 A maximum of five years --- in case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service Other Eligibility for Civil Services Examination Nationality-- -You must be a citizen of: A citizen of India, or A subject of Nepal, or A subject of Bhutan, or A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Education-- -You must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India Number of attempts General candidates: four attempts. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates: No restriction. Other Backward Classes: seven attempts.
