Education is the center of the heritage councils work programme. With education comes a greater value for the heritage and the respect for it. This is a scheme in Ireland that provides the panel of 165 panelists of the diverse heritage that works In close collaboration with the children of primary schools through out the country on the request of the schools. These specialists are partly funded by the schools associated and partly by the heritage council. In 2011, the Heritage in Schools Scheme facilitated 1,595 school visits reaching 118,620 children nationally. The value of the scheme lies in the fact that the richness of knowledge provided by this scheme to the students and the teachers has increased immensely since the start of the programmme. The primary aim of the scheme is to encourage awareness of the genius of the natural and cultural world that surrounds us in our daily lives and engage children in a direct experience of their heritage, preferably outside the classroom where possible and appropriate.
