Deputy collector is a very powerful officer with revenue department in a state in India.
Deputy Collector’s post is a dream post among the young government employees.

The Deputy Collector plays a dynamic role in the administration of a district in a state. He is endowed with great power and responsibilities.

Responsibilities are
Land assessment
Land acquisition
Collection of land revenue
Collection of income tax dues, excise duties, irrigation dues etc
Distribution of agricultural loans

Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has published notification for Combined State Civil Services Exam for the recruitment of Civil Posts such as Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) ect.

A Deputy Collector is a State Administrative Service officer in charge of revenue collection and administration of a sub-division in India.

Deputy collectors are posted at various key posts under the Government. e.g.

Sub-Divisional Officer & Magistrate (SDM)
Resident Deputy Collector
District Supply Officer
Deputy District Election Officer
District Rehabilitation Officer
Personal Secretary to Chief Minister, Cabinet Minister, State Minister
Deputy Secretary in Ministry
Returning Officer during Assembly elections
Assistant Returning Officer during Loksabha elections

Roles and responsibilities:

To maintain Law and Order in Sub-division
To collect Land revenue
To conduct free and fair elections
To appoint Police-Patil in villages
EGS implementation
Jalyukt Shivar implementation
Drought survey
Land acquisition and rehabilitation
Disaster management eg. Flood, earthquake etc.
Issuing various certificates such as caste certificate, Income certificate etc.

MPSC Important Dates

Starting Date of MPSC State Service Exam Online Application – 23 December 2019
Last Date for MPSC State Service Online Application Submission – 13 January 2020
MPSC State Services 2020 Prelims Exam - 05 April 2020
MPSC State Services Mains Exam 2020 - 02, 03 and 04 August 2020
