Dentists can make a great career in dental departments in hospitals, nursing homes, dental clinics and health departments as well as teaching departments in dental colleges.

You can find yourself in much better place after doing Post graduate or specialty courses like:

MDS (Masters of Dental Surgery)
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Dentistry

After BDS you can either directly start working or prepare for PG Entrance Examination. There are about 450 PG seats in India contested by thousands of candidates each year. MDS (Masters of Dental Surgery) is a 3 yrs. course, which obviously improves your carrier prospects manifolds.
