The Genetic Engineers are usually research scientists who work with animal, human, or plant genes. To become a genetic engineer, after completing high school, you should attend an accredited four year institution. Students should earn undergraduate degrees in a science-related field. Biology, chemistry, zoology, botany, or general science are all relevant options and will prepare the student for advanced study. Following are some good colleges where you can apply:

Genetic Engineering deals with genetic material (DNA) of a living organism by artificial methods. It provides studies for developing hybrid varieties of plants, making plants disease resistant. Genetic Engineering uses in research, biotechnology, and medicine.

To become Genetic Engineer, you need to do Bachelors courses in Genetic Engineering. Master and doctorate course definitely makes an advantage, but that courses are not that essential. The Bachelors course will take 4 years.

Here I am giving you eligibility criteria to do Genetic Engineering.

Course: BE / B.Tech Genetic Engineering

Eligibility: Applicants passed 10+2 with Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics from recognized board.

Selection Criteria: Selection of the candidate based on the Joint Entrance Exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on behalf of the IITs.

Specializations of Genetic Engineering

Molecular genetics
Population, quantitative and ecological genetics
Genomics
Genetic algorithms
Classical genetics
Behavioral genetics
Clinical genetics
